As a young adult, I would get frustrated by my father's "one great idea after another" mentality. There was always some new wonder that was going to make him rich or save his soul. His mind would go to the future where his idea would redeem him. It kind of works the same way for him now, except I believe his internal, envisioned future is very dark, and his mind tends towards saving himself and us from his feared nuclear wars, holocausts and revelation.
He also has an ability to get people really excited about his idea - well he used to anyway. He wants you to participate, he not only wants your emotional buy-in, he wants you to do something for him, I believe it helps validate his idea and his self-worth. My dad is a very needy person.
I am a lot like my dad.
Lately, I am being blessed with some cool ideas. They have been just popping in my head. I intend to share a couple of them with you today. Don't worry, I won't ask you to participate.
I am learning how discernment is important. It provides the freedom to have and explore ideas and relieves the pressure of wanting to bring every idea to fruition. The ideas come, I look at them, think about them, maybe even talk about them, compare them to my values, my preferences, my life, how the decision affects those who are important to me and to who I am important. It is my attempt at conscious living, my effort to optimize the characteristics I inherited from my dad.
And, some of the ideas are just fun - enjoy!
