Fun for the kids

Here is my idea for a children's book/movie. Now, I may decide that I am going to write this book, but honestly, probably not. I think it is fun to have the idea, would even be worth doing and I am okay with just having the idea, putting it out there and then moving on to my other priorities. Discernment.

It comes a little from personal experience - okay here goes:
  • It centers on a world/society/city of lizards living in a compost pile - sounds gross, but that makes it fun and let me tell you, compost bins are heaven for lizards!
  • The lizards love their lives, most of them, and appreciate what they have. There is one young lizard that is always kind of dreaming, looking beyond the rim of the compost bin, wondering what the world is like.
  • Maybe he even gets visited by a lizard from "out there".
  • Now the lizards know they have to watch out for cats, birds and most of all, humans. One day our young lizard friend gets snatched, chased by the cat and ends up where of all places? The house of course!
  • In the house, he explores around, avoiding the cats, dogs and humans. He sleeps in comfort, finds lots of food to eat and in general finds the house to be the most wonderful place he has ever encountered and dreamed of. Ignoring any potential downsides of course!
  • Then, he is discovered! The cat chases him out in the open to the feet of the human! Oh no, humans are bad!
  • What does the human do? Well, the nice human actually chases off the cat and gently returns the lizard to the outside and the lizard finds his way home.
  • Well, of course it wasn't enough that the lizard had this intense and wonderful experience, ignoring the downsides, he actually wants to move to the house! And, he wants all his lizard friends to go too.
  • It takes a lot of convincing, but he gets a group of his lizard friends, old and young to visit with him. Well, they enjoy themselves and return to the compost pile and tell all their friends.
  • And that keeps happening until there are hundreds of lizards migrating to the house!
  • Of course, the humans try valiantly to keep the lizards out, in a humane way, but they just can't manage.
  • So, they pack up the family and the pets and leave - the lizards have won! Or have they?
  • They are enjoying their new heaven, their new home, when what happens? The doors slam shut, a darkness falls over the house - EXTERMINATORS!
  • I am not quite sure how this all resolves itself, but somehow, the lizards save themselves from the exterminator, vamoose on the house and the humans return and there is a lesson wrapped up in there about, guess what, envy! Appreciating what you have, etc. Everyone lives happily ever and a peace falls over the kingdom of lizards - okay, maybe a little over the top at the end there..
What do you think? Publishing gold? Can I copyright it? If anyone wants to collaborate with me, let me know. Otherwise it will just be another idea.

Works for me.
