I love days off!

Like many (but not all) I have today off of work. I snuggled with my wife and puppies in bed, then went to spinning class with my wife. We went to REI after that for shopping, came home ate lunch, I took the dogs for a walk, gave them a bath and then meditated. What a day! I am getting some stuff (all fun) done on the computer then I am going to watch a bowl game. I am not a sports fan at all but sometimes it is fun to watch a game. And, since I have basically been on vacation for two weeks (interrupted by three days of work) I have been posting a lot. Always a good thing.

The reason I am posting is to mention an everyday spiritual moment. At our spinning class this morning our instructor had us do an entire 50 minutes in the seat as an endurance ride. Just a steady fat burning pace. She had the lights dimmed and played music that really helped create a mind/body atmosphere. So, a lot of the time I was closing my eyes, focusing myself on the present moment. Well, I also have a tendency to open my eyes and watch myself in the mirror.

The coolest thing happened though a couple of times when I closed my eyes, pulling my mind away from my self focus. What I did was slightly shift my attention out into the rest of the class and let my attention just kind of rest on the whole class. In those couple of moments I had a sense of connection with all of the other people in the class. A sense that we were all there together, working together, each of us pursuing growth within and for ourselves. It was a community of individuals working in the moment. I don't know, it is so hard to put into words a moment when you experience everything being perfect as it is; everyONE being perfect just they way they are. But, it came just from focusing on the present moment and letting my attention go from just myself to those around me and with me. Allowing their energy to flow into mine and feeling that shared energy. Very cool, very beautiful.

Happy New Year Day 2!
