From balance comes insight?

A wise woman once said, in regards to a young man's vacillation in choosing his breakfast beverage, "You can have whatever experience you want."

While true, oh so very true, it is a maxim that leaves some, including this writer, with as much comfort as discomfort.

In addition to requiring a load of personal responsibility, and who really likes that, having whatever experience you want requires faith. Faith that comes from the confidence in the choosing of one's personal experience does not come easy for this writer.

"Look around," says my ego, "look at all the fun they are having."

"They must be having a better experience than yours!"

No wonder envy ranks in the top seven of deadly sins. No wonder so many are seeking a foundation for faith.

No wonder I, from an early age, identified most with the Apostle Tom, the "Doubting Thomas". I want to see it to believe it. Faith, in myself, in others, in god, has never come easy.

But every once in a while, I look around, I get a good look at reality, and like Thomas, I get a little faith, and I think, "not bad Mr. Stiner, not bad at all."

"I guess I can have whatever experience I want."
