Tomorrow morning I am facilitating a training for my fellow fundraising staffers. I get a little nervous delivering a training session to my coworkers because I want make sure that the material I am delivering is practical, that the manner in which I conduct the session is interactive and that the participants feel the time was well spent. Our jobs, especially this time of the year, are packed with lots to do and I want to make sure that any time I pull them away from that full schedule helps them better complete their responsibilities.
At our staff meeting on Monday I shared my intentions with the staff, discussed how I want these sessions to proceed and insisted they come to me with any suggestions for improvement on any of the workshops I conduct, whether delivered internally or externally. Feedback from my team mates is very important to ensure I am meeting the goals I laid out above.
This will be the second time I have conducted a training session for my team, although I have conducted dozens of very successful sessions for our external stakeholders, like campaign managers, and the first time I have delivered this material to anyone.
I have reviewed the materials and been making edits up to the end (as a matter of fact I just finished and am blogging from work at 6:18 local time. Typically I wouldn't be doing so much of it last minute, although I don't mind working under the gun, I usually put something off until I know I have enough time to complete it within work hours. But, I put this one off a little too long...).
So I sit here, ready to leave, nervous, but confident that all will go well and I will meet my objectives as listed above. And if I don't, then I have a "Like Best/Next Time" evaluation I will have them complete so I know what to do next time to make the session even better. I am looking forward to it, hoping it will be rewarding and fun!
So, wish me luck!
