It seems to creep into an occasional post...although I am on my way to my weight loss goal of 200 lbs I have stalled a little bit at 205. That seems to be my magic number where my body likes to kind of sit at its lowest. It is a nice plateau for my body and I have been here before. Many times...
I know I can lose more weight and I have some fat on my belly that needs to go. The difficulty is the fat has been there since adolescence and even at my thinnest, in college, I still had a little bit of a belly.
Which means that if I am serious about getting rid of it I have to be even more vigilant about my eating and possibly adjust my exercise. What is making me think all this, in addition to the sight of my buddha belly, is at spinning class this morning the spin instructor was talking about how many students don't realize their weight loss goals because they work at too high of a heart rate. She said endurance and weight loss come at a lower heart rate and that is where you burn more fat.
Now, I am not sure of the science of all this, and I don't really care, but I know I have heard it before. I have heard before that fat burning range is ideally in the 55 - 70 percent of max heart rate range. And, I know that many of my workouts I am in a much higher range, pushing it as hard as I can. Even while mountain biking, since I often am riding with riders who are faster than me, I am in a very high heart rate range.
So, I am going to move forward from this point with a continued monitoring of what I eat and monitoring my heart rate in at least some of my workouts to focus more on the fat burning zone.
Me versus my belly - who will win?!?! Duh, duh, duh! (Meant to sound like dramatic music).
